Children's Braces
Starting your child with early orthodontic treatment can ensure the greatest results and the least amount of time and expense spent in improving your child’s smile. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur no later than the age of 7. During your consultation with Dr. Robert J. Herman, he can determine if orthodontic treatment is necessary for your child in order to promote proper jaw growth and development. Our goal is to detect any early indications of common orthodontic problems to avoid invasive procedures such as tooth removal or surgery.

Teen Braces
The most common age for orthodontic treatment is age 12-15 because usually all adult teeth are present at this time and the jaws are sufficiently developed to proceed with the placement of brace, to align the teeth, improve jaw positions, and balance the bite.
This is also a critical time in the social development of most children and a time when self-esteem is most likely to be adversely affected by dental alignment problems. Because having braces at this age is now the norm, not the exception, children at this age are often quite receptive to having braces, especially once they understand how straightforward, comfortable, and fun we can make it!

MEET THE DOCTOR
Dr. Rober J. Herman
Dr. Robert J. Herman grew up in Bartlesville, OK and is a graduate of Dewey High School. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he studied philosophy before completing his dental training with high distinction at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Dr. Herman is a
Dr. Herman served as an orthodontist in the U.S. Navy before entering private practice where he was stationed in Okinawa and Virginia. His naval service was decorated with multiple Navy Achievement Medals, a Navy Commendation Medal
Dr. Herman is recognized as a visionary researcher, having published numerous articles in leading journals of orthodontics and in the newest orthodontics textbooks. His research led to FDA approval of new orthodontic appliances, and he is frequently invited to lecture at the world’s leading orthodontic meetings. Dr. Herman is extremely active within our community and is currently a Past President of the Tulsa County Dental Society. Additionally- he represents Tulsa as on the Board of Trustees and serves as the Chair of the Budget Council for the Oklahoma Dental Association. Dr. Herman chairs the Specialty Practice Committee for the Oklahoma Board fo Dentistry and is also an active member of the Oklahoma Healthcare Authority Dental Focus Group.
Dr. Herman has been recognized by his peers with numerous awards including being named the Tulsa Dentist of the Year. He has won the Sadoris Award, the Wynne Award, and the Presidents Award. Dr. Herman is a Fellow of both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists. He is also in the Pierre Fauchard Academy and Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor societies.
